Amazon has rolled out an innovative AI tool for its Fire TV devices, enabling users to skip straight to memorable moments in films simply by voicing a description to the upgraded Alexa assistant. This capability, powered by Alexa Plus, integrates seamlessly with Prime Video and enhances the existing X-Ray functionality that delivers on-screen details about what’s playing.
The update aims to streamline the viewing experience, allowing Fire TV owners to bypass tedious scrubbing through footage. As Amazon highlights in its rollout notes, the core goal is swift access to desired content. Viewers can now chat with Alexa as if conversing with a buddy, saying something like the poker game moment from Love Actually or the pivotal line where Joshua inquires about starting a game in WarGames, and the system will cue it up instantly.
According to the company, this scene-jumping tech processes natural language inputs covering plot details, character identities, actor names, settings, and iconic dialogue across a vast library of Prime Video titles. It draws on advanced models such as Amazon’s own Nova system and Anthropic’s Claude to parse queries accurately, even when the film’s name isn’t specified, making navigation intuitive and efficient.
By reducing the hassle of manual searching, the feature discourages users from turning to rival services like YouTube for clips, keeping engagement within the Amazon ecosystem. For now, it applies only to pre-tagged segments in a curated selection of movies available through purchase, rental, or a standard Prime subscription.
Amazon plans to broaden support in the near future, incorporating additional film sequences and extending the tool to television series as well. This launch follows an initial reveal at the firm’s September hardware showcase, marking another step in embedding smarter AI into everyday streaming routines.
