    DoorDash has introduced Zesty, an artificial intelligence-driven social application aimed at simplifying the search for nearby dining options. The platform, which debuted in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York, marks the company’s expansion into social networking and local discovery services beyond its core food delivery operations.

    Zesty allows users to log in using their existing DoorDash credentials and interact with an AI chatbot to receive tailored suggestions for restaurants and other eateries. By entering custom queries, such as one seeking a relaxed evening meal in Williamsburg suited for quieter personalities, individuals can obtain precise recommendations without sifting through multiple reviews, menus, or social media videos. The app also offers pre-set ideas like venues perfect for group brunches or intimate dinners evoking a nostalgic atmosphere.

    According to DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang in a post on X, Zesty draws data from sources including the company’s own platform, Google Maps, and TikTok to compile top-rated options from online content. The application adapts to user preferences over time, enabling people to bookmark appealing spots and distribute them to friends. It further supports browsing and posting images and feedback from personal dining experiences, exploring contributions from the community, and building networks of followers, much like conventional social media platforms.

    A DoorDash representative told reporters that the initiative reflects the firm’s commitment to fostering stronger ties between people and their local scenes. The pilot version of Zesty focuses on easing the identification of standout restaurants, cafes, and bars via customized searches and community interactions, with feedback from initial users guiding ongoing refinements to improve local exploration.

    The development was first detailed in a report by Bloomberg. While alternatives like general search engines or AI tools such as ChatGPT already assist with restaurant hunts, Zesty stands out by creating a dedicated social environment centered on culinary discoveries, which may charm to those seeking a more interactive approach.

    This release continues DoorDash’s push into non-delivery areas, following earlier introductions this year of tools for booking on-site meals and accumulating benefits at physical locations, as outlined in the company’s announcement on its official site.
