Alibaba has introduced the beta version of HappyShrimp 1.0, a novel AI-driven music generation model crafted by its Alibaba Token Hub (ATH) division. This innovative tool empowers users to transform abstract ideas into polished musical compositions.
HappyShrimp 1.0 is designed to generate complete tracks from a single input, allowing users to specify an emotion, narrative concept, or genre. The AI can create melodies, arrangements, lyrics, and vocal parts without necessitating any prior music knowledge, such as understanding BPM, key signatures, or instrumentation.
The beta version features text-to-music (T2M) generation capabilities that cater to both full vocal pieces and instrumental tracks. Users have the flexibility to start from scratch or input their own lyrics for the model to generate the musical composition, arrangement, and vocal delivery.
Equipped with extensive musical knowledge, HappyShrimp 1.0 can interpret elaborate prompts, translating them into cohesive musical outputs reflective of various genres, cultures, and historical contexts. It handles styles ranging from Chinese music (Zhongguo feng) to pop, R&B, hip hop, rock, funk, electronic, classical, and jazz, showcasing its versatility.
A demonstration revealed that when prompted for a K-pop girl-group track, HappyShrimp adeptly crafted a melody, arrangement, vocals, and rap flows that aligned with the K-pop aesthetic. The resulting track featured smoothly unfolding melodies paired with dynamic rap sections, culminating in an engaging arrangement.
Through its sophisticated understanding of musical structure and emotional expression, HappyShrimp 1.0 constructs a detailed representation of both the “grammar” of music, such as song structure and harmonic development, and its “semantics,” which include emotional tone and lyrical intent. This allows for precise user control over narrative flow, instrumentation, vocal style, and emotional dynamics in the generated music.
HappyShrimp will team up with TAIHE MUSIC GROUP, a prominent Chinese music service provider, to explore collaborative projects including artist partnerships and high-quality content development that leverage the AI’s capabilities.
