In June, the company introduced Claude Science, a platform designed to integrate commonly used research tools, generate auditable artifacts, and offer flexible computing resources. Moreover, the AI for Science program continues to expand, providing complimentary credits to researchers engaged in significant scientific endeavors.
Today marks a notable expansion of these initiatives as the company announces the availability of 10,000 seats for scientists worldwide. These seats will provide access to Claude subscriptions free of charge or at reduced costs for one year under the newly launched Claude team plan for scientists. Standard seats will be free while premium seats, offering five times the usage limits, will be accessible for $15 per month. Plans are in place to grow this program well beyond the initial offering of 10,000 seats in the upcoming months.
In tandem with subscription opportunities, the company aims to broaden the reach and capabilities of its AI for Science initiative. Until now, the program has primarily benefited researchers in biological sciences, but there are plans to extend credits to scientists in additional fields. This expansion includes sectors engaged in high-computational research, much like achievements surrounding the Riemann zeta function and advancements in protein design.
By facilitating better access and increased usage of Claude through various subscriptions, credits, and products such as Claude Science, the aim is to significantly expedite the pace of scientific discovery.
Scientists interested in registering for the Claude team plan for scientists should complete the verification form. Eligibility is restricted to principal investigators or equivalents at academic or nonprofit research organizations. Verified applicants can subsequently add researchers from their labs to the plan.
As labs begin to use their allocated credits and seek additional resources beyond what standard or premium tiers offer, researchers may apply for the AI for Science program to request up to $50,000 in credits per project. This application is open to all researchers.
Currently, researchers in the fields of biology and chemistry will be limited to the Opus-class models. Claude Fable models will persist in blocking queries related to professional biology and drug development due to their potential dual-use risks. The company is collaborating with the US government to develop an access program allowing life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models for research and development. They have enrolled their initial participants and anticipate expanding access in the near future.
