Runway has unveiled a new product called Runway Ads, designed to automate the creative process of performance marketing campaigns. By simply linking an advertising account and brand kit, Runway Ads can generate multimedia content, publish the approved versions directly to advertising platforms like Meta, Google, and TikTok, and analyze their performance to inform future creations.
The current landscape of performance advertising often sees companies investing heavily in a limited number of advertisements, which hinders their ability to maximize returns. Many marketing teams struggle to identify the most effective ads, primarily due to the constraints of creative production rather than the analytics at their disposal. Runway Ads aims to address this challenge by offering a streamlined solution for developing, monitoring, and evolving ad campaigns.
This new product is beneficial for large enterprises managing extensive campaigns globally, allowing them to test creatively and localize content quickly. Smaller teams and businesses can also benefit, using Runway Ads to execute thousands of advertisements weekly and adapt in real time according to performance insights, all without detracting from their core operations.
Building on the foundation established by Runway Agent, Runway Ads automates crucial elements of ad creation and purchasing while ensuring that human oversight is maintained throughout the approval process. It produces high-quality video and image advertisements based on brand guidelines and prior creative assets, publishes the approved versions to major advertising platforms, and calculates performance data for continuous refinement. Additionally, the platform systematically localizes every asset according to specified rules and takes care of format adjustments to meet the different specifications required by various channels.
Runway Ads also offers automated brand checks before ads enter the approval queue, with the default setup requiring human validation. Brands can gradually transition to fully automated publishing as they gain confidence in the system. Moreover, the tool helps adhere to budget constraints and optimally reallocates resources among various ad versions based on defined parameters.
Highlighted use cases include a direct-to-consumer brand that can quickly expand its ad variations without designers’ intervention, an e-commerce company that can efficiently generate ads from large product databases, and a mobile application entering new markets that can localize winning ads for diverse languages and audiences. Advertising agencies managing multiple clients can also use Runway Ads to standardize processes while maintaining brand consistency across different accounts.
The framework for Runway Ads is built upon the same infrastructure that Runway used to improve its own performance marketing, particularly on platforms like Meta and TikTok. Since July, the company has increased its weekly ad volume significantly and managed to double its return on ad spend while realizing gains in conversions and reducing costs per subscriber.
“The development of Runway Ads stemmed from our own needs,” said Anastasis Germanidis, co-CEO of Runway. “By integrating ad generation, publishing, and measurement into a single platform, we have gained comprehensive visibility into our advertising effectiveness, enabling us to respond quickly and expand our market presence.”
