Claude Duet, a new feature from Claude AI, aims to streamline how users interact with their digital tools by retaining context, memory, and connected apps. This tool is designed to enhance productivity with minimal setup, allowing communication to flow seamlessly through both typing and voice within a single ongoing thread. Whether users need a quick response or are working on a longer project, the conversation experience remains consistent.
One of the standout capabilities of Claude Duet is its ability to operate independently of a user’s devices. It features a virtual machine that runs its own browser, meaning tasks can be executed without needing a laptop or phone to remain on. Users can send brief descriptions of tasks, and Claude Duet will determine the necessary apps and actions to complete the job, providing notifications when tasks are finalized or when user input is required.
To manage notifications effectively, Claude Duet checks connected accounts periodically rather than constantly, conserving the service plan’s limits. Continuous feedback from users will help refine its approach to notifications, enabling further customization regarding alerts and frequency of updates.
Despite its autonomous capabilities, Claude Duet maintains a focus on user control. It can read and draft documents, yet it requires user approval before taking significant actions, such as sending messages, authorizing payments, or deleting files. Some operations, like trading or transferring funds, remain strictly off-limits, and users have the option to disconnect any applications Claude Duet can access.
Claude Duet is also integrated with over 6,000 connectors and plugins available in the Claude Marketplace. This integration allows it to assist with various tasks, including managing communications in Gmail and Slack, invoicing through QuickBooks or Stripe, and preparing payroll with Gusto. Other functionalities include drafting job postings for LinkedIn and facilitating contract management through DocuSign, among many others.
Additionally, Claude Duet will soon enable purchases on behalf of users through digital wallets like Link and Shopify’s Shop Pay, ensuring transactions remain secure with virtual card payments. With user consent, it’s expected to integrate with saved logins via 1Password for added convenience in online transactions.
Currently, Claude Duet is in a research preview phase and may not always interpret threads accurately or prioritize tasks correctly. Although it is focused on work-related functions, personal tasks such as ticket bookings may not be as effectively catered to at this stage. For now, it operates in a separate app distinct from the main Claude application, with user feedback playing a pivotal role in shaping its development.
This new feature is being rolled out to Pro and Max users in the United States, and interested individuals can join the waitlist to receive updates on its availability.
