SpaceXSI has built an AI data analyst designed to help employees answer questions without waiting for the company’s small data science team. The tool, called Data Bot, works inside Grok Bot and can query the company’s data warehouse, run analyses and present findings in formats tailored to the person asking.
The effort grew out of a familiar problem at a fast-growing company: employees had a steady stream of questions, and even routine requests often needed a data scientist’s expertise. SpaceXSI’s data team began exploring AI agents as a way to make that knowledge available around the clock while freeing analysts to focus on more demanding work.

Rather than relying on the knowledge of an individual user, Data Bot draws on a shared collection of skills that the data team maintains for everyone. Those skills cover core business metrics and the queries used to calculate them, methods for investigating changes, and guidance on how to run and interpret experiments.
The bot is also trained in visualization and data engineering practices. It can choose suitable chart types, follow the team’s style guidelines and turn a chart into a dashboard in Databricks or Hex. Other instructions cover reviewing dbt models, pipeline alerts and analytics event tracking for new features.
SpaceXSI has given Data Bot shared memory, too. It can retain useful details that emerge during work, such as who owns a particular pipeline or whether an earlier dip in a metric was caused by a regional holiday. The data team reviews proposed additions and can approve or reject them before the information is made available to other users.
For product managers, the bot offers a faster way to investigate questions that dashboards may not answer. Kevin Niparko, a product manager at SpaceXSI, can ask Data Bot questions in Grok Bot, receive a response in minutes and continue the analysis through follow-up prompts. He likens the experience to having a data scientist in his pocket.
That ease of access can change which questions get asked. Niparko can explore ideas that might previously have seemed too time-consuming to investigate, and Data Bot can deliver findings as a concise takeaway alongside a chart, matching his preferred way of working.
Marketing staff are using the bot to connect campaign activity with customer behavior. Email services can report opens and clicks, but those measures do not necessarily show whether a campaign achieved its business goal. Jon Brenner, who works in lifecycle marketing, can provide a Braze campaign ID and ask Data Bot to check whether recipients who clicked later used a feature.
For the launch of The X Subscription, Brenner wanted to know how many email recipients changed plans. Braze’s standard conversion metric could not answer that question, so Data Bot queried the warehouse to count recipients and determine how many subsequently switched.
Katy Abbaszadeh, SpaceXSI’s director of revenue growth, uses the tool to assess how events contribute to sales, including whether they generate pipeline or help move existing deals forward. She also checks progress toward weekly targets, investigates potential slowdowns and turns results into charts for presentations.
Some assignments go beyond a quick question. A product manager examining a shift in adoption can ask Data Bot to map out an analysis, query the warehouse and test possible explanations. The bot can return a report with charts or create a Hex dashboard that the team can keep using.
Teams can also add Data Bot to Slack channels and assign it recurring reporting tasks. It can track a metric, post scheduled updates using the data team’s conventions and respond when colleagues ask follow-up questions or want to investigate an unexpected change.
SpaceXSI estimates Data Bot handled about 70 hours of work last week that would otherwise have gone to its data science team. The company says human analysts still take on complex work that demands greater judgment, while the team continues to identify areas where the bot needs more guidance.
The broader aim is to make the data team’s expertise more readily available across the company, without treating the AI as a substitute for analysts. By absorbing routine requests and some larger investigations, Data Bot is intended to give data scientists more time for questions that require their direct attention.
