5% OffMicrosoft has introduced the rollout of Anthropic models in its Copilot Studio, available alongside existing OpenAI models. This enhancement provides users with increased flexibility in selecting models for various applications, including orchestration, chat, and deep reasoning tasks. Starting today, Anthropic’s innovative models are accessible to early adopters globally, with a broader preview slated for release in all environments within two weeks. Full production readiness is expected by the end of the year.
While OpenAI remains the default model for creating new agents in Copilot Studio, users now have the option to incorporate Anthropic models, specifically Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1. This dual model approach allows for improved customization in agent functionalities and workflows, enabling organizations across different sectors to tailor solutions that best fit their operational needs.
In Copilot Studio, administrators have control over the deployment of Anthropic models. Initially, these models must be activated via the Microsoft 365 Admin Center before they can be used across an organization. Once enabled, they will be available by default in the Power Platform Admin Center, where admins can further manage model access and configurations. Should Anthropic models be disabled, agents developed using these models will automatically revert to the default OpenAI GPT-4o without requiring additional setup.
As an example of the practical applications of this new capability, an HR professional creating an onboarding agent can easily start by launching Copilot Studio and linking the agent to essential HR documents and resources. The platform facilitates the design of conversational workflows, allowing users to select from various model options—including the new Anthropic offerings—tailored to specific tasks such as policy interpretation or employee communications.
This initiative marks the beginning of expanded model choices within Copilot Studio, encouraging users to experiment with different AI models according to their unique operational contexts. Microsoft invites feedback from users as they navigate these options, emphasizing that insights will be instrumental in shaping future developments in AI capabilities.
