Mozilla Integrates AI-Powered Perplexity Search Engine into Firefox Browser

Mozilla has announced that its Firefox browser will now feature the AI-powered search engine Perplexity, allowing users to integrate advanced search capabilities into their browsing experience. The company revealed this update on Tuesday, emphasizing user feedback as a driving force behind making Perplexity available to its global desktop audience, with plans to extend the feature to mobile devices in the near future.

Initially, Mozilla had tested the Perplexity integration in select markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. However, it remains uncertain if Perplexity will join Mozilla’s lineup of default search engines like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. The implementation offers users a conversational search experience where responses are accompanied by citations, as opposed to a mere list of links typically provided by conventional search engines.

The option to use Perplexity will be accessible through the unified search button in Firefox’s address bar, enabling users to switch between search engines with ease. Additionally, users can set their preferred search provider in the browser’s settings. Mozilla has previously indicated that if the testing phase of Perplexity succeeds, it may incorporate further AI search options into Firefox.

Alongside the AI search announcement, Mozilla also stated that it’s rolling out its browser profiles feature to all users. This allows individuals to create multiple profiles for different needs, such as work or personal use, following a successful testing period. Mozilla continues to refine its offerings, including ongoing tests of visual search capabilities using Google Lens for users who set Google as their default search engine.
