Apple has rolled out significant updates to its professional creative software suite, enhancing Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro across both Mac and iPad platforms. These changes apply to the traditional one-time purchase models as well as the subscription-based Apple One Creator Studio editions, introducing smarter tools powered by artificial intelligence and streamlined workflows for creators.
For Final Cut Pro on Mac, available in all editions, the update brings advanced intelligence features designed to speed up editing. Users can now employ Transcript Search to pinpoint specific spoken words or phrases in footage through precise queries or natural language prompts. Visual Search offers a similarly intuitive method to track down scenes involving particular objects or activities by describing them in everyday terms. Additionally, Beat Detection scans audio tracks to identify rhythm elements like bars and beats, making it simpler to sync video cuts with music tempos. These capabilities require a Mac equipped with Apple silicon chips.
To help newcomers hit the ground running, the app includes a guided demo project spotlighting performances by rising singer-songwriter Allie Sherlock, allowing hands-on exploration of the latest tools. Onboarding has also improved with built-in tutorials covering essentials like setting up libraries, importing files, and building timelines.
On the iPad side, Final Cut Pro is now exclusively accessible via an Apple One Creator Studio subscription for first-time users, though existing individual subscribers can maintain their $4.99 monthly rate. The iPad version mirrors the Mac’s intelligence upgrades, including Transcript Search, Visual Search, and Beat Detection, all necessitating iPadOS 18 or later. A fresh addition, Montage Maker, lets users automatically generate highlight reels synced to music, which can be shared directly or refined further. The Allie Sherlock demo project returns here too, alongside new creative options such as animated titles, bespoke graphics, and timing elements like countdowns.
Workflow improvements round out the iPad enhancements: multiple clip selection in the inspector enables bulk edits, background rendering via Live Activities keeps projects progressing during app switches on M3-chip iPads running iPadOS 18 or newer, and external display support expands the editing canvas for smoother previews.
Turning to Logic Pro, the Mac update across all versions introduces AI-driven Session Players, with a focus on the new Synth Player for crafting keyboard and bass lines through easy to use controls. It supports generating lively synth performances that handle note-playing and sound modulation. Options include Simple Pad for rich chord layers, Modulated Pad and Rhythmic Chords for added texture and energy, and bass presets like 808 Bass, Pump Bass, and Sequenced Bass to anchor tracks. Chord ID analyzes any song section to detect harmonies, ensuring Session Players adapt seamlessly.
The Sound Library has expanded into a complimentary, ever-growing archive of high-quality audio packs. Creators can audition previews before downloading and easily remove unused content to manage storage.
For Logic Pro on iPad, again limited to new Apple One Creator Studio subscribers, the AI Session Players feature set matches the Mac’s offerings. A standout addition is Quick Swipe Comping, which simplifies piecing together ideal takes from multiple recordings using Take Folders for organization and side-by-side comparisons. Apple Pencil integration provides finer control for selections.
Music Understanding tools enhance discovery, allowing natural language searches in the Browser, such as querying for a “dreamy electric piano” loop. Machine learning then suggests matching options from the Sound Library to inspire further builds.
Existing iPad-only subscriptions for Final Cut Pro or Logic Pro remain at $4.99 per month, but accessing the full Apple One Creator Studio package, which encompasses additional apps, requires the $12.99 monthly tier. Complementing the main apps, updates to Motion and Compressor for Final Cut Pro, plus MainStage for Logic Pro, incorporate parallel feature sets in both purchase and subscription formats.
Separate from the Creator Studio ecosystem, Apple also refreshed iMovie for Mac and Final Cut Camera for iPhone today, broadening accessibility for casual video work.
