Claude Tag (beta) now allows users to integrate Claude directly into Slack channels, enhancing team collaboration. Previously, Claude operated using only the connectors linked to the channel by an administrator, which resulted in limited access tailored to individuals rather than to collective channels, as organizations often prefer maintaining a restricted list of access to monitor specific users rather than an entire channel.
In this latest update, Claude can use a user’s personal connectors for requests made within a Slack channel. This means users can access their own calendar, cloud storage, CRM accounts, and more directly through their integration with Claude. Individuals who have linked their accounts will benefit from this capability in the channel.
Users can choose how to manage the information shared when requesting data from their connectors. They can review responses before they are posted or activate an auto mode that permits automatic sharing unless Claude detects sensitive information that requires approval. For Enterprise plan users, administrators have the option to enforce mandatory reviews for all team members.
This ability for personal connectors offers administrators greater governance flexibility. They can decide on access protocols, allowing users to share specific tools under a managed agent identity or mandate that all channel contributions rely on individual connectors while maintaining role-based access where necessary.
As of now, personal connectors are being rolled out in Team plans, with plans for Enterprise adoption to follow shortly. This development responds to a common scenario in which channel members need access to documents and tools secured behind individual logins, such as personal calendars or open deals.
For instance, a user named Priya interacts with Claude in the #checkout-migration Slack channel, which is linked to GitHub. She issues a request: “@Claude check my Google Drive doc ‘Checkout migration, Q3’ against what we’ve shipped. What’s still open?” In this instance, Claude taps into the channel’s GitHub connector to fetch integrated pull request data. Although previously limited, Claude now accesses Priya’s Google Drive to provide a comprehensive comparison of what has been completed and what remains pending.
Priya opts for the auto mode since her document does not contain sensitive information, allowing Claude to post the requested comparison without her prior review. However, in cases where she prefers to assess the response first, she can switch to review mode to evaluate what will be shared with the channel.
All actions Claude performs through a user’s personal connector will record these activities under that user’s account, while the general channel’s activities remain documented within its established service account, which security teams can monitor. Users maintain control over what information is disclosed to the channel, akin to communication in direct messages, with the option to disconnect a connector at any moment.
It’s important to note that personal connectors are not designed for unattended use. Scheduled tasks and any actions initiated by Claude independently will still rely on connectors designated by an administrator attached to the channel. For instance, if Claude is included in an #on-call channel to assist with continuous integration triage, it will use shared connectors associated with management tools and historical deployment data.
For tasks that primarily require human oversight, such as collaborative document preparation involving sensitive information, a channel structured around personal connectors is appropriate, allowing restricted access to critical data sources. It’s important to remember that any information Claude provides will be accessible to all channel members.
The integration process requires no installation. When users request data that depends on their personal connectors, Claude will prompt them the first time, subsequent access will be seamless within the conversation.
