Anthropic has officially launched Claude Corps, a new national fellowship initiative aimed at empowering early-career individuals who are eager to leverage artificial intelligence for the benefit of communities throughout the United States. This program will train 1,000 fellows in the effective use of Claude, Anthropic’s AI technology, while partnering them with various nonprofits across the nation. Each fellow will commit to a year of full-time, in-person work, intended to enhance the operational capabilities of their host organizations while concurrently equipping the fellows with important AI skills for their future careers.
The establishment of transformative AI technologies comes with the potential for disruption, making it essential for firms developing these systems to guarantee that their advantages are widely accessible. To support this initiative, Anthropic is investing an initial budget of $150 million into Claude Corps as part of its broader commitment to addressing the impact of AI on the workforce.
Claude Corps is the result of a collaboration between three main entities. Anthropic will oversee funding and strategic direction while providing expertise on Claude. CodePath, America’s leading provider of collegiate computer science education and an Anthropic nonprofit partner, will serve as the fellows’ official employer and manage programming for the fellowship. Social Finance, a nonprofit organization focused on investment advisory, will handle program measurement and evaluation, as well as future financial strategies necessary for the initiative’s expansion.
The fellowship spans 12 months, beginning with extensive training on the application of Claude in nonprofit contexts. Following this initial phase, fellows will engage in five hours of ongoing training weekly, dedicating the remainder of their time to supporting their host organization. Each fellow will earn an annual salary of $85,000, alongside benefits and mentorship from CodePath and Anthropic technical resources.
In its first year, Claude Corps is set to collaborate with at least 400 nonprofits, including organizations such as Braven in Chicago, which focuses on job readiness for first-generation and low-income students; and Team Red, White & Blue, which enhances veterans’ lives through communal activities. Other host organizations include the Montgomery County Food Bank in Texas, Heartland Forward in Arkansas, and the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, all aiming to use AI to bolster their missions and foster community engagement.
Those interested in joining the Claude Corps can submit their applications for the fellowship, which are currently open until July 17th for the first cohort, scheduled to start in October 2026. Following that, applications will remain open for subsequent cohorts beginning in January and August 2027. To qualify, candidates must be over 18 with less than two years of full-time work experience, authorized to work in the U.S., and willing to relocate for the role if necessary. Support for relocation is available as needed.
Host organizations are also invited to apply now for all forthcoming cohort start dates, with detailed information regarding the hosting process available on the Claude Corps website.
Looking ahead, Anthropic aims for this initiative to grow significantly beyond its initial target of 1,000 fellows. The organization plans to closely monitor how well host nonprofits achieve their missions and track the professional development of fellows. Insights gathered will inform the evolution of Claude Corps, with a vision to open-source core technologies and infrastructure to facilitate similar initiatives globally, potentially replicating this model in other nations.
