Google has unveiled a new initiative called Expert Intelligence, designed to improve how users interact with their reading materials through its AI products. This initiative enables readers to pull insights directly from their favorite books and respected authors into the Gemini Notebook, promising a more immersive experience with the literature they engage with. Users can easily integrate select ebooks purchased through Google Play Books into their notebooks, allowing them to pose questions related to the text and receive tailored answers grounded in the material.
In recent months, Google has collaborated with authors and publishers to explore how AI can enrich readers’ connections to books. Feedback indicated that many readers frequently revisit beloved titles, seeking to apply the authors’ insights to their daily lives. In response, Google has added functionality that allows for the generation of various resources such as infographics, audio summaries, and quizzes based on the selected works.
The new capabilities not only enable users to obtain advice from their favorite authors but also to mix in their own personal information. For instance, a manager might seek strategies for providing employee feedback by referencing Kim Scott’s work, while an individual could analyze her personal journal alongside Dr. Mary Claire Haver’s insights in The New Menopause. Parents can also use the tool by taking photos of their fridge’s contents to create a balanced meal plan inspired by Michael Pollan’s Food Rules.
Launched with over 100,000 titles from prominent publishers, including Penguin Random House and Macmillan Publishers, Expert Intelligence has been developed in close cooperation with more than 15 bestselling authors. These collaborations have led to the creation of Featured Notebooks, which enrich the reader’s understanding of the authors’ works through additional curated content and interactive tools.
The introduction of Expert Intelligence reflects Google’s continued commitment to empowering readers with advanced technology that enhances their literary journeys and provides deeper engagement with the material they love.
