Looki Launches AI Wearable L1 to Revolutionize Daily Life Logging in China

Chinese tech firm Looki has rolled out its innovative AI-enabled wearable device, the Looki L1, specifically for the domestic market. Unveiled to international audiences earlier in the year, the gadget positions itself as an intelligent assistant for daily life, capturing routine experiences without user intervention and creating video logs automatically. In China, it carries a price tag of 1,499 yuan, equivalent to about $212.

This release arrives amid rising enthusiasm for hardware centered on artificial intelligence, particularly in light of recent disclosures regarding OpenAI’s forthcoming device. Although specifics on OpenAI’s offering are scarce, the Looki L1 offers a glimpse into the potential of this emerging class of AI wearables, emphasizing seamless, continuous capture combined with smart sorting of media, which echoes ongoing conversations about advanced digital aides.

Looki emphasizes that the L1 documents everyday activities while safeguarding privacy, keeping all footage on the device itself unless the owner explicitly allows cloud transfer. Key functionalities include the production of AI-crafted video summaries, intelligent retrieval of recorded content, and analytical overviews of personal habits via the company’s AI system, intended to reveal trends in users’ schedules as time passes.

Built for comfort during extended wear, the Looki L1 boasts a small footprint of 50.53 by 16.84 by 48.02 millimeters and tips the scales at a mere 32 grams. It employs gentle, body-compatible fabrics to minimize discomfort over full days of use and holds an IP67 certification against water and dust, suitable for typical outdoor exposure. Buyers can choose from black, white, or green finishes.

At its core is a broad-view lens equivalent to 16mm with an f/2.2 opening and a 109-degree viewing angle, capable of snapping 4K stills and recording 1080p clips at 30 frames per second. Stabilization through electronics and high dynamic range processing ensure steady shots in diverse light settings.

Audio capture relies on a trio of microphones equipped for noise suppression, enhancing dialogue sharpness and environmental sounds. A 1-watt speaker integrated with an advanced amplification setup delivers spoken responses and facilitates interactions powered by AI.

Storage comes in 32 gigabytes onboard, with files retained locally as standard. The unit connects via Bluetooth 5.0 and supports Wi-Fi on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, while a six-axis sensor tracks movement and identifies contexts.

Powered by a 375 milliampere-hour cell that recharges in roughly 90 minutes, endurance depends on the selected recording interval. Looki reports up to nine hours for bursts of five seconds each minute, 11 hours for nine seconds every two minutes, and 13 hours for 11 seconds every three minutes.
