Meta Unveils AI Update for Smart Glasses to enhance Conversations and Curate Spotify Playlists

Meta has launched a new software update for its AI-powered smart glasses just in time for the holiday season, enhancing their functionality with features designed to improve conversations and personalize music experiences. The v21 update, rolling out immediately, introduces capabilities such as boosting a speaker’s voice amid surrounding clamor and generating Spotify playlists inspired by visual surroundings.

The update first brings Conversation Focus to users in the Early Access Program for Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN glasses in the United States and Canada. Unveiled earlier this year at the Connect event, this feature employs the glasses’ open-ear speakers to elevate the volume of the person being addressed, making it easier to follow discussions in crowded settings like restaurants, public transport, or lively music events. Users can fine-tune the amplification by swiping along the right temple or via their connected device, ensuring the audio adapts to different noise levels.

In collaboration with Spotify, Meta is also debuting a pioneering multimodal AI tool for music selection on these glasses. By issuing a voice command like “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view,” wearers can prompt the system to analyze what they see, such as an album artwork or a holiday tableau, and curate a tailored playlist drawing on Spotify’s recommendation algorithms and the user’s listening history. This integration aims to fuse visual recognition with audio personalization for more immersive moments.

The Meta AI music feature with Spotify is currently limited to English speakers in select countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Those interested in accessing the newest updates promptly are encouraged to join the Early Access program for Meta’s AI glasses.
